Many new marketers turn to sites like Clickbank, when they want to find a new niche market. But, If you are anything like me, you can’t go to a website like Clickbank looking for a niche product and see anything you love or even feel all that passionate about.
So, what can a new marketer do to find niche ideas that are going to make money? How do you know what product is the best for your next promotion? Truthfully, there is no magic wand and no real way to look at a niche product and know whether or not it is going to make you money, but there is some critical niche research that you can do that may show you whether or not a product is more likely to be a winner before you start promoting it. Here are a couple of things that you can look for on Clickbank to make your determination:
Gravity – This can be found in the product description at ClickBank. This number basically tells you how many affiliates have sold at least one unit. The higher the number, the more you can assume the product is selling well and that the sales page is proving to convert. So what’s a good gravity number? A number which is high, like 536, would indicate that there are many, many affiliates selling the product while a number like 1.96 would mean the competition is low. Try to pick a product where the gravity is above 3.00 but below the gravity of the most popular product in that niche.
Sales Page Appearance – Take a look at the sales page for the product. Does it look professional? If you were looking for a product in this market, would you feel comfortable buying it from this vendor? Does the sales page grab you and make you want to buy the product? You want to pay close attention to the sales page. If it makes you think that it was just quickly thrown together, you might want to look at other similar products. Make sure that the process from beginning to end of the site is smooth. You want the headline to grab your attention and you want the visitor to have many opportunities to buy. Check to see if there are bonuses being given away and if there is an “upsell.” Many times, the bonus that a product comes with compells a visitor to buy the product.
Available Information – How much information is readily available online? Do a search in Google and find out what information is already available that is free. There is a good chance that people will not buy what they can get with an easy search and at no cost. This is a sign that the niche is not going to be profitable. If however, your search turns up with little information, but enough for you to research and get information for articles and other advertising, you have probably found a good product to market.
Affiliate Resources – There are usually 3 or 4 vendors on ClickBank trying to sell very similar products. What distinguishes one vendor from the other is the affiliate resources they offer. Vendors often give affiliates things like articles, graphics, free reports, and other information that will help them in marketing their product. These resources are overlooked by many people. Vendors may go as far as giving a list of profitable keywords that you can start your campaign with.
Gravity, Sales Page Appearance, Available Information and Affiliate Resources are the things that guide you in making an informed decision regarding the fitness of the product for promotion. After you have evaluated these areas, it will be very important for you to check a few more things.
First, check for “leaks.” This refers to the ability of the buyer to slip through the cracks and purchase the product through another payment processor. To make sure that you will get credit for the sale, go to vendor site page with your affiliate link and follow all of the links on the sales page. Make sure that your affiliate ID is still showing up at the bottom of all the pages.
Second, Keep an eye on whether or not the vendor is collecting email addresses on a squeeze page. If they are, sign up. As you start to get emails from them, follow the links inside the emails and make sure that your affiliate ID is still being carried through. In the past, there have been suggestions that vendors might possibly steal commissions from affiliates by replacing their own IDs in the affiliate code.
Finally, since there are several vendors selling similar products, check out all of the different vendors and compare which one will give you the best opportunity to make a sale. The main goal is to do your thorough niche research to determine the niche market that you can settle into and find the best niche product to promote. By doing niche research upfront, you will increase your likelihood of collecting money from your niche site for years to come. By doing so, you will be making sure that you have set yourself up for success.
